30 January 2007 - Tasty Charity Fundraiser

The new Royal Fusion Indian and Thai restaurant in Uffington played host to a different type of launch night on Monday 29th January when 80 people filled the restaurant to capacity to sample the excellent cuisine and raise £3,500 for children’s charity Barnardo’s.

The event was the idea of Peterborough businessman and owner of Royal Spice, Zillur Hussain, who decided to reject a standard restaurant launch in favour of a charity fund raising evening.

He said, “I have managed several launch nights on an invitation only basis but due to Royal Fusion being a restaurant with a difference, I decided to change the format and host a charity fund raising evening that would not only benefit my restaurant but also a worthwhile charity.”

Zillur’s next step was to speak to the Peterborough Fund Raising Committee (PRFC) who is a collection of local business professionals who regularly organise charity events in the Greater Peterborough area. The event is the first of its kind organised by the committee who are better known for the premier Peterborough charity event “A Question of Sport”.

Committee member and Partner at local Solicitors Metcalfe Copeman & Pettefar, Sarah Adlam, said “The PFRC recently met for a Christmas meal at the excellent Royal Spice restaurant in Peterborough and were approached by the restaurant manager, Nabib, who discussed the potential for holding a fundraising night at their new restaurant in Uffington. Knowing how popular this event would be, we agreed to help Nabib, and the tickets sold out immediately after promoting the event.”

She continued “The evening was fantastic and the restaurant will no doubt become the premier choice for Asian food diners in the greater Peterborough area. The PRFC, on behalf of Barnardo’s, are very grateful to The Royal Fusion for their kind gesture and I am sure that the restaurant now has 80 new customers that will return time and again.”
